In the 2025–2026 academic year, Ochakiv recorded a decline in the number of children attending educational institutions. Overall, there were 105 fewer pupils than the previous year.
This is stated in the report on the work of the Ochakiv City Council’s Education Department for the past year.
Thus, in the 2025–2026 academic year, the total number of children in educational institutions fell by 105 compared to the 2024–2025 academic year.
There were 910 schoolchildren in the town during the academic year. The decline is attributed to military operations, families moving away from the community and abroad, as well as the suspension of operations at certain educational institutions.
At the same time, the report notes that despite the decrease in the total number of children, the number of pupils attending school in person has risen — 531 compared to 446 last year. In contrast, 379 children opted for distance learning, which is fewer than last year.
The town has two grammar schools and a lyceum, which provide basic and full general secondary education:
- Ochakiv Gymnasium №1
- Ochakiv Gymnasium №2
- Municipal Institution «Ochakiv Lyceum»
It is noted that due to the war, the situation in education remains difficult. Some schools and nurseries are closed, and certain institutions have been damaged by shelling. The following were affected in 2025:
- Ochakiv Gymnasium №2 of the Ochakiv City Council, Mykolaiv Region.
- Ochakiv Music School;
- The City Palace of Culture of the Ochakiv City Council.
- Vasylivka Secondary School of the Ochakiv City Council;
- Pokrovske Primary School of the Ochakiv City Council.
It should be noted that as of October 2025, around 7,500 people lived in Ochakiv. This is half the pre-war population.
It was also reported that as of October 2025, 70% of buildings in Ochakiv had been destroyed or damaged: private houses, high-rise buildings and infrastructure facilities.
