There are no toilets at the cemetery in Velyka Korenykha, Mykolaiv. Residents are asking for this to be sorted out so that people do not relieve themselves in the cemetery.
Valentyna Kostyriova wrote about this in the Contact Centre group on the Mykolaiv City Council’s page.
Residents noted that Korenykha is divided into two parts, each of which has a cemetery. But neither has a toilet.
«This causes significant inconvenience for people who come to tend the graves and honour the memory of their loved ones. People are forced to relieve themselves right on the cemetery grounds, which is disrespectful to the deceased and violates basic hygiene standards,» wrote Valentina Kostyriova.
Residents are asking for toilets to be installed at both cemeteries in Korenykha. In the comments, many residents of the neighbourhood supported the appeal to the municipal enterprise Mykolaiv Funeral Service. They noted that people come to the cemetery from various districts, but there is simply nowhere to relieve themselves.
«People even come to this cemetery from the city because their relatives are buried there; it takes half an hour from the Central Market to the terminus in Korenykha, then another half an hour walking around the cemetery to visit the graves and back. That’s at least two hours! There are elderly people who can no longer hold it in like younger people, so toilets are desperately needed,» said Kateryna Demko.
The request was registered under number 65615.
As a reminder, residents of Velyka Korenykha have approached the Mayor of Mykolaiv regarding public transport and the preservation of concessions for waste collection. They are complaining about transport issues, in particular the lack of free travel for those entitled to concessions, and also emphasise that the nearby municipal landfill is affecting people’s health.
We would also like to remind you that in Mykolaiv, cemetery cleaning will be stepped up ahead of remembrance days to ensure that piles of green waste are not left behind after visits to graves.
