In the Mykolaiv region, 32 communities, or 62%, have already finalised their plans for transforming the education network, but some have yet to present their vision for the future reform of educational institutions.

This was reported by Olena Kravets, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, during a meeting of the Mykolaiv Regional Council’s parliamentary committee on education, according to NikVesti.

According to her, 32 communities in the region, or 62%, have already approved plans for the transformation of the education network. A further 11 communities (21%) have drafted the relevant documents but have not yet formally adopted them. In three communities, the plans are currently at the public consultation stage.

At the same time, six communities have not submitted any vision regarding the prospects for reforming educational institutions at all. These are Blahodatne, Kostiantynivka, Syniushyn Brid, Volodymyrivka, Chornomorka and Zavodske.

As Olena Kravets noted, Mykolaiv region was a participant in a pilot project under which communities were required to submit their plans by 1 September 2024. However, the communities failed to make a decision in time, so the reform is now proceeding under the general legislative procedure.

Separately, experts are holding individual consultations with representatives of those communities that have not yet decided on a reform model.

«We are holding individual consultations with heads of communities who do not need anything. So that they can explain where these children will travel to, whether there is a school bus, or whether there is the possibility of purchasing a school bus. Whether they have a vision of where they will teach the subject of Ukraine’s defence, because this is a state standard and we cannot do without it. The community must ensure that children living in the community receive a full general secondary education,» emphasised Olena Kravets.

It should be noted that Mykolaiv is set to approve a network of academic lyceums by 1 September 2027. This concerns preparations for the reform of senior specialised schools. However, not all educational institutions are ready to enrol pupils in Years 10–12 next year, so they may lose their lyceum status.

Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, also stated that the number of children in the region is now lower than it was before the start of the full-scale war. He added that the reform to reduce the number of schools is ongoing.
