The Department of Education has announced how many kindergartens will be open this summer

This summer, a number of kindergartens will be open in Mykolaiv. This arrangement will run from 1 July to 20 August.

This is stated in a response from the Mykolaiv City Council’s Education Department in reply to an enquiry from NikVesti.

The summer operation of the nurseries has been divided into two periods. From 1 June to 1 July and from 20 to 31 August, 43 nurseries and groups at the Mykolaiv Special School for Children with Visual Impairments will be open in Mykolaiv.

From 1 July to 20 August, 31 on-call nurseries and pre-school groups at the special school for children with visual impairments will be open.

The Department of Education estimates that around 3,000 children will attend nurseries this summer. There will be sufficient places in the on-duty nurseries.

The Department of Education also noted that nursery managers were required to inform parents about the operation of the on-duty nurseries in April.

The usual daily routine in kindergartens will not change in the summer, but children should be given as much time as possible outdoors, with physical education and health activities and games.

As for meals in kindergartens, 16 million hryvnias have been allocated for June. However, additional funds will be required by the end of the year, including for July and August.

To provide meals for pupils in pre-school educational institutions (including the pre-school groups at the Mykolaiv Special School for Children with Visual Impairments) until the end of this year, the additional funding requirement is 107,348,126 hryvnias, of which 34,091,651 hryvnias is for July and August,» the Department of Education reported.

According to forecasts, around 7,400 children will be attending nurseries from 1 September.

As a reminder, the executive committee has reallocated 864,500 hryvnias to the Department of Education. These funds will be used for meals in Mykolaiv’s kindergartens. However, this amount will not be sufficient until the end of the summer, so the city council will be asked to allocate additional funds.

Earlier, at the Mykolaiv City Council session on 28 May, it was announced that the Mykolaiv budget is short of almost 150 million hryvnias to provide meals for children in schools, kindergartens and vocational colleges until the end of 2026.

The bulk of the funding is being directed specifically towards kindergartens, as schools receive some funding from the state budget. Over 109 million hryvnias are needed for kindergartens, over 33 million hryvnias for co-funding school meals, and a further 7 million hryvnias for special schools and vocational education institutions.

The City Council’s Education Department has noted that funds for meals in kindergartens may only last until 20 June.

In this regard, city council members have appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada to allocate additional funds from the state budget for children’s meals.

The Education Department has now announced a tender for the provision of meals in the city’s kindergartens until October 2026. The estimated cost of the service is 69.1 million hryvnias.
