Law enforcement officers have exposed a group suspected of setting fire to official vehicles of the Defense Forces in western Ukraine. In the Khmelnytskyi region, a gang leader was detained, who is suspected of working for the intelligence of the aggressor country.
As reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, the detainee turned out to be a local resident who independently contacted the Russians offering his services in exchange for a monetary reward.
According to the law enforcement officers, for this he posted his «resume» on the darknet, where he offered services for setting fire to cars of territorial assembly centers. This announcement was answered by a representative of the Russian Federation, who gave the task of setting fire to military vehicles in Khmelnytskyi.
It is noted that in order to commit arson, the man involved several more residents of the region. They set two cars of the local Military Commissariat on fire with Molotov cocktails. And then they filmed the car catching fire on phone cameras for a «report» to the occupiers.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the activities of the group were documented and its organizer was arrested «on hot pursuit.»
During the searches, mobile phones and SIM cards, which were used to communicate with the Russians, were seized from him.
The organizer was informed of the suspicion of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period, as well as the organization of a completed attempt to deliberately destroy someone else's property by arson, according to a prior conspiracy by a group of people.
He is currently in custody. The issue of additional qualification of his actions is being resolved.
An investigation is also underway to bring his accomplices to justice. They face up to 10 years in prison.
We will remind you that the National Police together with the Security Service of Ukraine revealed 59 cases of arson of servicemen's cars and exposed 68 people in the commission of these crimes.
