In the Kherson region, 1,458 people are considered missing under special circumstances during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This was told by the Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kherson Region, the Chief of the Investigative Directorate, Colonel Mykola Verbytskyi, Radio Liberty reports.

A center for searching for persons who have gone missing under special circumstances has started working in the Kherson region. According to Mykola Verbytskyi, information on the number of missing servicemen is confidential. As for civilians, there are currently 1,458 people missing under special circumstances who have not yet been found in the Kherson region.

«A large category of people who remained in the temporarily occupied territories in the first days of the full-scale invasion and, of course, after a certain time had passed, there was no telephone connection and no electricity supply. In connection with this, the relatives really could not get in touch and turned to the police en masse — we opened proceedings. Then they stay for several months, and some are now coming back and contacting each other. We communicate with them,» he said.

A separate category of missing persons is the residents of Kherson region, who stopped communicating after the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP in June of last year.

We will remind that as of May 15, the data of about 38,000 Ukrainians have been entered into the Unified Register of Persons Disappeared Under Special Circumstances. It contains data on both military personnel and civilians.
