The SBI will check the actions of General Sodol during the Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region, media reports

The State Bureau of Investigation will check the actions of Lieutenant General Yurii Sodol during his command of the defense of the Kharkiv direction.

This was reported by interlocutors of «Ukrainian Pravda» in law enforcement agencies.

According to their data, the SBI replied to Bohdan Krotevych, chief of staff of the Azov brigade of the National Guard, that his statement based on the facts of possible excess of official authority and incompetent command of the troops by the ex-commander of the Khortytsia Special Operations Command Yurii Sodol has been considered. According to the results, his testimony was added to the materials of the actual criminal case regarding the circumstances of the Russian military breaching the border in the Kharkiv region.

«The Bureau promised the representative of Azov that the circumstances presented by him will be checked,» the interlocutors of the publication noted.

On the other hand, the day before, Bohdan Krotevych said that he was not satisfied with the answer of the SBI.

«Next is the work of lawyers, I am grateful to everyone who supports. I ask the military not to be afraid to testify (including non-public ones), we will not back down,» he wrote.

It will be recalled that on May 24, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he decided to replace the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Yurii Sodol.

Who is Yuriy Sodol?

From the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, General Yurii Sodol took part in the defense of Mariupol and the battles near Volnovakha. In 2023, Sodol led an operational-tactical group in the Uhledar direction.

According to the decision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi in February 2024, Yurii Sodol became the commander of the United Forces of the Armed Forces.

Since 2018, Sodol has been the commander of the Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In April 2024, he became the head of OSU «Khortytsia».

Although this appointment caused indignation in the network, because the entire eastern front falls on Sodol, while he is being accused of inadequate material support of the fighters, which led to losses.

In particular, People's Deputy from «Servant of the People» Mariana Bezuhla called Yurii Sodol a «backroom butcher». A few days earlier, after a trip to the front line, Mariana Bezuhla, commenting on the general's work, called him a criminal who appointed «his people» to key positions in the military command.

After that, the 35th separate brigade of marines officially appealed to political figures with a request not to call the commander of the United Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Yurii Sodol, a «butcher» in the information space. The military was asked not to enter the sphere in which society does not understand.
