Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh was awarded the title of the best track and field athlete in the world in 2024 in non-running disciplines according to World Athletics.
This was reported by the International Athletics Federation.
In the fight for the title, the Ukrainian beat Olympic heptathlon champion Nafissata Thiam from Belgium. For Yaroslava, this is the first victory in the nomination after three years in a row among applicants.
It should be noted that for the first time in the 37 years of the award's existence, a Ukrainian athlete was recognized as the best track and field athlete in non-running disciplines.
In the 2024 season, Ukrainian track and field athlete Mahuchikh won her first Olympic gold, won the European Championship, won the Diamond League final for the third time in a row, and set a world record in the high jump — 2.10 meters.
Previously, Yaroslava Mahuchikh became the best track and field athlete in Europe in 2024. The Ukrainian high jumper received the award at the European Athletics Awards ceremony.
