Yaroslava Maguchih became the best track and field athlete in Europe in 2024. The Ukrainian high jumper received the award at the European Athletics Awards ceremony.

This is reported by «Suspilne. Sport».

Femke Ball, Sifan Hassan, Yemisi Ogunleye, Nadia Battokletti, Nafissatu Thiam, Keeley Hodgkinson, Malaika Mihambo, Natalia Kaczmarek and Sirena Samba-Mayela also claimed this award.

This season was a triumph for the Ukrainian athlete: she set a new world record in the high jump with a result of 2.10 meters, won a gold medal at the Olympic Games, became the European champion and won the Diamond League title for the third time in a row.

At the same time, Yaroslava Mahuchikh received the main award from European Athletics for the first time in her career. In the seasons of 2022 and 2023, the Ukrainian woman was a finalist in the nomination, but did not become a laureate of the award.

«It was the most successful season for me. Many dreams have come true: a world record and Olympic gold for Ukraine,» the athlete commented at the award ceremony.

It should be noted that this recognition is the second in history for Ukraine: in 2013, Bohdan Bondarenko, also a Ukrainian high jumper and world champion, received the «Lightweight Athlete of the Year» award.

We will remind that earlier the Federation of European Athletics (European Athletics) announced the nominees for the title of the best athlete of 2024, among them the Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Maguchykh.

We will remind that Yaroslava Mahuchikh took first place in the high jump final at the 2024 Olympic Games. She brought Ukraine the fifth medal at this year's Games.

Yaroslava Mahuchikh also set a new world record in women's high jump, reaching a height of 2.10 meters.

Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who won gold at the 2024 Olympics, donated 500,000 hryvnias to help the wounded soldiers of Azov.
