Oleksandr Syrskyi

Oleksandr Syrskyi is a Ukrainian military leader, general, candidate of military sciences, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2024. He was born on July 26, 1965, in the village of Novynky, Vladimir Oblast, RSFSR. He received his military education at the Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School and the M. V. Frunze Military Academy.

Military Career:

• 1990s: Service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine after gaining independence.
• 2014-2015: Participation in the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine, including leadership of the ATO headquarters.
• 2017-2019: Commander of the Joint Operational Headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
• 2019-2024: Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
• Since 2024: Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Notable Operations:

• Defense of Kyiv (2022): Leadership of the capital's defense during the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation.
• Slobozhansky Counteroffensive (2022): Successful liberation of territories in the Kharkiv region.
• Battle for Bakhmut (2022-2023): Organization of the city's defense under intense combat conditions.
• Kursk Operation (2024): Summarizing the operation where Russian forces suffered significant losses.
