decommissioned nuclear power plant in Kyiv Oblast

Chornobyl NPP is a nuclear power plant in Kyiv Oblast, shut down after the accident of 26 April 1986. The destroyed fourth reactor is covered by a protective arch, the New Safe Confinement.

In February 2025 a Russian drone hit the shelter of the fourth reactor, and rescuers spent weeks dealing with the aftermath. The Ukrainian government allocated more than 1.5 billion hryvnias to keep the shelter safe, and an international fund raised 400,000 euros to assess the damage to the arch. Russian strikes on the power grid have repeatedly cut the plant off from external power.

MykVisti covers the safety of the plant, repairs to the arch, international aid and events in the Chornobyl exclusion zone.
