The government has allocated more than 1.5 billion hryvnias to keep the Chornobyl NPP shelter safe after the Russian attack. Funding has been increased by 139 million hryvnias compared to 2024.
This was announced today, 18 February, by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal.
He noted that there is currently no radiation threat, and rescuers continue to eliminate the consequences of the attack.
«Today, our focus is on the energy sector, which is systematically attacked by the enemy. Russia has once again resorted to terrorism against nuclear facilities. The drone attack on the Chornobyl NPP shelter is an attempt to intimidate Ukraine, Europe and the world. Currently, there is no radiation threat, work is underway to eliminate the consequences of the attack», he said.
According to him, the government has also made a decision to attract a €400 million loan from the European Investment Bank. These funds will be used, in particular, for energy-efficient reconstruction.
As a reminder, on the night of 14 February, a Russian attack drone hit a shelter over the destroyed fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.
As you know, in June last year, the Verkhovna Rada ratified a framework agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on the operation of the International Cooperation Account for Chornobyl.
