Naftohaz refused to give the thermal power plant to Mykolaiv and considers it potentially profitable

The Mykolaiv thermal power plant (CHP) is no longer planned to be transferred from the state to the ownership of the city of Mykolaiv.

This was stated by the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, during his press conference on January 4, answering the questions of the NikVesti correspondent.

At the beginning of 2019, the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, voiced the idea of transferring the Mykolaiv thermal power plant, which serves 40% of subscribers of the regional center, from state to communal ownership. The then Prime Minister of Ukraine, Volodymyr Groysman, instructed the Vice-Prime Minister, the Minister of Regional Development, Construction and Housing of Ukraine, to prepare a draft decision on the transfer of PrJSC Mykolaiv CHPP to the municipal ownership of the city. It was expected that the government would make a corresponding decision in the same 2019, but this did not happen.

«No, today this issue is not considered. During this time, the CHP came under the control of NJSC Naftohaz, and they consider this object as a potentially successful one, which, if invested in it and modernized, can be profitable. Therefore, as I received information, they do not trade their assets, they plan to improve them,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

In 2021, the technical director of Naftohaz Teplo LLC (a subsidiary of Naftohaz JSC) Fedir Shevchenko said that Naftohaz of Ukraine plans to modernize the Mykolaiv CHP together with local authorities in 2022.

What about heating in Mykolaiv

As you know, the 2023-24 heating season in Mykolaiv began on November 14, but Mykolaiv CHP was able to provide heat to residents only at the beginning of December due to numerous accidents on heating networks. The mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, believes that the problems with starting heat in Mykolaiv will only worsen in the coming years.

Mykolaiv Thermal Power Plant is one of two enterprises that provide heat to the population of half a million Mykolaiv. As of the end of 2021, the CHP served more than 40,000 subscribers, including 28 kindergartens, 19 schools and 24 hospitals.

Earlier, it was reported that in Mykolaiv, Sienkevych's task of transitioning the social sphere to autonomous heating has not yet been fulfilled.
