Safe Mykolaiv: about 150 cameras should be installed in two districts of the city by the end of the year

In Mykolaiv this year, the Department of Standardization and Implementation of Electronic Governance plans to complete the first stage of the implementation of the «Safe City» system, about 150 additional cameras will appear on the streets of two districts.

Dmytro Kanarskyy, the head of the Department of Standardization and Implementation of Electronic Governance of the Mykolayiv City Council, told about this in an interview with TRC «MART».

According to him, during the war, work on creating a video surveillance system in the city did not stop. The shelling of the city did not cause significant damage to the cameras.

— The specifics of the arrivals were such that the cables and power supply suffered, — noted Dmytro Kanarskyy.

As a reminder, the Mykolaiv City Council has chosen a company that will be engaged in the construction of the video surveillance and analytics system «Safe City» for 67.4 million hryvnias. Cameras are planned to be installed in different areas of the city. Dmytro Kanarskyy noted that they are now implementing the first step in the Centralnyy and Zavodskyy districts. Priority is given to the installation of number plate recording cameras.

— We will act in four shifts. Each queue is about 90 points around the city, in total about 150 cameras are released at these points. This is only one queue, and there are four of them. This year we want to make the first turn and we are doing it now. And these approximately 150 cameras will appear around the city — these are the Centralnyy and Zavodskyy districts. The main emphasis will be on license plate cameras, that is, those cameras that will be used to recognize motor vehicles by registration marks, color and type, by which they are recognized by a special system, — he said.

Dmytro Kanarskyy also noted that private cameras are also connected to the video surveillance system.

— Private cameras that were connected to the system, they remained, some were added to the system during the war. We add them in such a way that it is safe. Our base is hardware that allows you to connect quite a few cameras. It is flexible because we use the networks of operators of another market and we buy the service from them. We don't have our own coverage, but we can use the so-called «transport» from one of the big providers in the city and connect quickly anywhere, — he added.

We remind that in Mykolaiv it was planned to install cameras in 270 areas in various districts of the city:

• Next is the Central part of the city. 88 video surveillance areas will be set up there, on which 86 cameras for fixing car numbers and 52 surveillance cameras will be installed.
• II phase of construction — Kherson highway/Solyani. These are also 88 areas where 91 cameras for fixing state license plates and 38 surveillance cameras will be installed.
• III stage of construction — Pohranychna/Bohoyavlenskyy prospect, which will include 54 video surveillance sites with 97 state license plate recording cameras;
• Stage IV — Old Center/Cosmonavtiv: 40 video surveillance areas, where 93 state license plate recording cameras and 5 surveillance cameras will be installed.

We also remind you that earlier the executive committee held a tender for the purchase of a mobile container for the data center for 16.2 million hryvnias. According to the official, the mobile data center should become the core of the deployment of city information systems, covering not only the «Safe City». Thus, the city video surveillance system can become one of the information components that will take its place in the mobile data center.
