Zelenskyy: We have to restore all possible energy facilities by winter

During the next three to four months, Ukraine should quickly and inexpensively restore all possible energy facilities.

This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a speech at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024, NikVesti reports.

«In the short term, we must implement a quick and inexpensive restoration of all energy facilities that can now be restored before winter. This is so important before winter, during the next three or four months,» Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

The head of state also added that Ukrainians know how to ensure the restoration of the energy system, they expect equipment from stopped power plants and direct financial assistance from international partners.

«This will allow us to react to the situation here and now,» he added.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded that 9 GW of power was destroyed as a result of Russian missile and drone strikes in Ukraine, adding that the peak consumption last winter was 18 GW.

«We lost many times more generation than the energy consumption of large cities. 80% of heat generation in Ukraine, a third of hydro generation were simply destroyed by Putin,» he emphasized.

It was previously reported that power outages for the population, which began on May 14, 2024, will last until August-September. In winter, a deficit in the energy system is predicted even at high temperatures.

Recently, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that only 27% of large thermal power plants in Ukraine remain in working order, the rest are damaged or destroyed.
