Central European country, partner of Mykolaiv

Germany is a federal republic in Central Europe. For Mykolaiv it is first of all a partner: the German city of Hannover is Mykolaiv's twin city.

Hannover and Germany's Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) have handed the city vehicles for municipal services, minibuses, truck-mounted cranes and backup power systems for dormitories housing displaced people. With German partners, Mykolaiv is setting up a municipal company, Sviy Dim, to manage municipal housing. In February 2024 German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited Mykolaiv. At the national level, Germany funds Ukraine's air defence, energy sector and drone production: in October 2026 it announced more than €1.3 billion in aid.

MykVisti covers German aid to Mykolaiv and the region, Berlin's decisions on the war, Ukrainians in Germany and the country's domestic politics.
