Sappers work on a mined field near Snihurivka. Photo: Olena Kozubovska, NikVestiOn the outskirts of Snihurivka, in the Mykolayiv region, pyrotechnicians are assisted by a MV-10 mechanized demining machine, which arrived from Croatia as international aid.
The equipment does not ensure complete cleaning of the territory, it prepares the soil for the further work of sappers, says sapper-operator Oleksandr Fedirko.
«Sappers still have to pass after the machine, because it does not ensure 100% demining, it only prepares the ground for demining. There is a special tool on which there are two shafts: one with hammers, the other with blades. If some explosive object does not detonate, it will be crushed into small pieces,» says sapper-operator Oleksandr Fedirko.

«The machine works remotely, with the help of a remote control, the operator is constantly at a distance of 50 meters from the equipment. All others involved in demining are at a distance of about 250 meters,» said the sapper.

Photo: Olena Kozubovska, NikVestiThe equipment can withstand up to 10 kilograms of explosives with minimal damage, which, according to Oleksandr Fedirko, is easy to fix. With the help of MV-10, sappers demine approximately 0.5 hectares in one working day, which is half as much as by manual means.
«In the daytime, we can work a little more than a hectare by hand, but it will pose a greater threat to our lives,» said the man.
