A quarter of businesses in the Mykolaiv region operate in the retail sector. Overall, the number of companies and sole traders has increased by more than 2,500 over the past year.
This is according to data from the regional statistics office, as reported by NikVesti.
As of 1 April 2026, over 53,300 legal entities were registered in the region. This is 441 more than a year ago. The number of sole traders increased by more than 2,000 during this period and now stands at almost 44,000.
In the national ranking, Mykolaiv region ranks eighth in terms of the number of legal entities, accounting for 3.4%, and 16th in terms of the number of sole traders (2.4% of the national total).

These are followed by agriculture, forestry and fisheries (10%) and administrative services (5.2%).
In terms of organisational structure, almost half of the enterprises are companies — 48.5%, a further 28.3% are enterprises, 14.5% are public and religious organisations, and the remainder are other forms.
It should be noted that in the Mykolaiv region, over seven thousand sole traders closed down in the first 11 months of 2025.
