Humanitarian response: needs of de-occupied communities of the South discussed in Mykolaiv

In Mykolaiv, on 16 January, NGOs and representatives of charitable foundations discussed the analysis of humanitarian support in the de-occupied regions of southern Ukraine.

This was reported by the correspondent of NikVesti.

The public union «and the Legal Development Network» have developed the Link platform, which helps to collect information about the needs of the population in the de-occupied territories of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions.

Olha Nastina, Executive Director of «Legal Development Network», said that de-occupied communities enter information about the current needs of their residents on the Link platform, so humanitarian organisations can respond quickly to people's requests.

«We collect information about the needs of communities from our informants who periodically visit the de-occupied territories. We also have the opportunity to talk to government officials and receive requests for humanitarian needs from them», says Olha Nastina.

She added that international partners are currently focusing on the de-occupied territories, but the same humanitarian needs are relevant for internally displaced persons.

«We are now seeing a decrease in humanitarian flows to Ukraine, but the need has not disappeared, it is probably becoming even more acute. That is why we have to inform the global donor about the real needs of people», said the director of «Legal Development Network».

According to representatives of the de-occupied communities, there is no water supply in many villages, so people need technical and drinking water. In addition, there is a need for fuel wood, hygiene kits, medicines, and food.

The Link platform was implemented in partnership with the Czech humanitarian organisation «Man in Need» with financial support from the UK Government.

As a reminder, the European Union has allocated €148 million for the humanitarian needs of Ukrainians. The money is aimed at helping vulnerable people in Ukraine and refugees in Moldova.
