The Russians tortured to death the mayor of Zaporizhzia: his body was returned during the exchange

Yevhen Matveiev, the mayor of the city of Dniprorudne, Zaporizhzhia region, was tortured in captivity by the Russians, and his body was returned during the exchange.

This was announced on December 4 by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Ivan Fedorov.

He reminded that the Russians captured Dniprorudne in the Zaporizhzhia region at the end of February 2022. And later, the mayor Yevhen Matveiev was also taken prisoner. He was held captive by the Russians for two years and eight months and was tortured. During the last exchange, his body was returned to Ukraine.

«There are no words to express all the pain of loss. We have no time for procrastination. Every day, Russia perpetrates terror against our people — true patriots,» Ivan Fedorov said.

We will remind that in October-November of this year 54 Ukrainian prisoners of war were shot by the Russian military. Prosecutors recorded the facts of the crimes and opened criminal proceedings.
