Tonnes of oil fall into the Southern Bug River in Mykolaiv due to enemy attacks

In Mykolaiv, the debris of a UAV damaged a vegetable oil tank of an agricultural enterprise. The oil spilled into the Southern Bug River.

According to the mayor of the city, Oleksandr Sienkevych, the incident occurred on 28 December.

According to the mayor, absorbent booms were used to contain the pollution. The oil was pumped out by specialists from the State Emergency Service all these days. As of the evening of 2 January, 42 tonnes had already been pumped out.

«We also purchased a tonne of absorbent. Once we have collected as much of the stains as possible, we will neutralise them with an absorbent. Tomorrow, a bulldozer will be working to collect the contaminated soil layer», the mayor added.

As a reminder, on the night of 28 December, the air defence forces destroyed 12 enemy Shahed 131/136 drones over Mykolaiv region. At the time, it was reported that two fires broke out as a result of air defence operations and falling debris: on the roof of a five-storey residential building and on the territory of an industrial enterprise where dry grass caught fire.
