Ivan Pyvоvarchuk, a farmer from the Mykolaiv region who cultivates 1,100 hectares of land, has had his fields completely cleared of mines in two years. According to him, the Ukrainian military is the most effective in this process, as they can clear up to 30 hectares in two weeks.

This is described in the article by NikVesti «Before setting foot on the ground: How deminers are preparing Mykolaiv region for the return of its people».

«These are the guys (military, — note) who come and clear 30 hectares in two weeks. Then you can safely go in and work. This is a serious job, they do everything quickly and efficiently».

According to him, foreign deminers, for example, the Norwegians, are significantly behind in terms of pace:

«They spend years on 30 hectares, working only two hours a day, and this is not what is needed in such conditions».

As a reminder, demining of agricultural land continues in Ukraine. More than 1,100 hectares have already been cleared under the state programme, including 131.4 hectares in Mykolaiv region. In total, auctions for the demining of more than 11,000 hectares of agricultural land have been held, and work is currently underway on 9,400 hectares. In March, sappers completed the clearance of 434 hectares of land at the Institute of Potato Growing of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, where mines and shells were found.
