The head of the Mykolaiv Health Department, Iryna Shamrai, said that there is currently no reason to switch children to distance learning due to bad weather.

She said this in a comment to NikVesti.

As is known, due to the deterioration of weather conditions and a drop in temperature, the government has issued recommendations on the organisation of distance learning and work. Final decisions are made taking into account the conclusions of relevant commissions and the actual situation in each region.

«The fact is that in the autumn and winter, we always see an increase in morbidity, and this does not depend on anything. This was the case 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 15 years ago — and it will be the same in 5 and 10 years. In autumn and winter, there is usually an increase in the number of cases of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza. In children, this sometimes causes complications and increases hospitalisation. In any case, the autumn-winter period is the peak of various viral infections, so there is no direct connection here,» said Iryna Shamrai.

She said that there is currently no reason to transfer children in Mykolaiv to distance learning due to morbidity.

«This depends on medicine only when the epidemic threshold of morbidity established for our country is exceeded. When it is exceeded, quarantine is imposed, and children do not attend school. As of today, there is no epidemic threshold that would recommend limiting classes to distance learning due to the incidence of disease among the child population of Mykolaiv,» concluded Iryna Shamrai.
