Cultivation of watermelons and melons in the Mykolaiv region increased by 28%

In 2024, the area of cultivation of watermelons and melons in the Mykolaiv region increased by 28% compared to the previous year.
The Department of Agro-Industrial Development of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration answered this in response to the information request of Suspilne correspondents.
In addition, the department reported that melon crops are grown in every district of the region.
«In 2024, watermelons were planted on an area of 1,550 hectares, which is 20 percent more than in 2023, and melons were planted on an area of 691 hectares, which is an eight percent increase,» the report said.
It is noted that approximately 80% of the area of melon crops is concentrated in households, and the remaining 20% — in agricultural enterprises.
We will remind that this year in the Mykolaiv region they plan to survey 44 thousand hectares of agricultural land. Since the beginning of the year, explosives technicians have already surveyed 5 thousand 96 hectares, of which 2 thousand 99 hectares have been demined.
In general, it is worth noting that the pace of this year's inspection exceeds last year's indicators, where on average, pyrotechnics inspected 22.8 thousand hectares of agricultural land per month. According to the results of four months of 2024, pyrotechnics reached an average figure of 28.75 thousand hectares per month. Thus, since the beginning of 2024 , 108,000 hectares of agricultural land have been demined in Ukraine.
