2025 proved to be a difficult year for farmers in the Mykolaiv region — yields for almost all crops fell, and the sunflower harvest more than halved.

This is according to data from the regional statistics office, NikVesti reports.

As is traditional, cereals and legumes accounted for the largest share of agricultural production. In 2025, their gross yield amounted to 2.04 million tonnes — 6.8% less than the previous year. Yields have been falling for the third year running — from 39.1 centners per hectare in 2023 to 29.1 c/ha in 2025.

The most significant drop was in sunflower production. A harvest of 385,000 tonnes was recorded — almost 51% less than in 2024. The crop’s yield also fell sharply to 9.1 centners per hectare.

At the same time, rapeseed was an exception to the general trend. Despite lower yields, the gross harvest of this crop rose by 36.8% — to 271,800 tonnes.

The potato harvest in the region amounted to 149,700 tonnes, which is 5.3% less than last year. At the same time, productivity improved slightly to 117 cwt/ha.

Vegetable crops amounted to 495,600 tonnes — 13.3% less year-on-year. Following a record-breaking 2024, yields also fell — to 393.8 cwt/ha.

Fruit and berry crops also showed a decline: their gross harvest amounted to 17,600 tonnes, which is 18% less than a year earlier. Yields fell to 63.2 cwt/ha.

It should be noted that in the Mykolaiv region, 7% more land has been sown compared to 2025. The region is expecting a stable harvest despite isolated losses due to weather conditions.

It was previously reported that in 2025, the region recorded the lowest sunflower yield among all regions of Ukraine. Furthermore, farmers lost a significant portion of their harvest due to spring frosts and a prolonged summer drought. Sunflowers and maize were the hardest hit — in some fields, yields fell by several times compared to previous years.
