On Thursday, May 23, the opening of the «Hvylia» youth center took place in Mykolaiv in the building of the Mykolaiv City Council.
The project was implemented with the support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the government of Japan, NikVesti reports.
«Some time ago it was the canteen of the city council. The fact that this space is in the city council is a temporary issue. No, we will not move it, we just want to make an entrance to the center from Naberezhna Street, and cut it off from the city council with a small fence, so that access here is not as if you are entering some secret zone,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
He also emphasized that there is enough space in the city council building to expand the youth center in the future.
«Now, during the war, we must not forget about the young citizens, because they are the future of Mykolaiv. These are the people who will rebuild Mykolaiv and continue to live in it. It is important that this is only the beginning. There is still plenty of room in this building that we plan to turn into a real youth center. I hope that in the near future we will move the services that occupy it from the first floor and also give it to the youth center. Also here on the second floor there is another room where there was a kitchen, we also plan to do something youthful in this kitchen. We also plan to have an exit and a third floor where young people can gather,» said the mayor.
Today, the space consists of several rooms, the donors have equipped here a conference hall, a photo booth and several locations for conducting master classes, trainings and other informal events. The total area of the youth center is 270 square meters, it can accommodate more than 100 people at the same time.
We will remind you that the total cost of arranging such a youth space in Mykolaiv amounted to 3.6 million hryvnias.
At the opening, the mayor noted that 100,000 hryvnias were allocated from the city budget for the opening of the youth center, and other expenses were covered by donors.
Note that the center will be open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 20:00. Monday is a day off. Activities will be financed in accordance with the adopted programs of the Mykolaiv City Council, in accordance with the procedure established by law, and from other sources not prohibited by law.
We will remind you that on May 3, residents of the village of Novogrigorivka, Shevchenkove community, in the Mykolaiv region, opened a youth center in the building of the library destroyed by Russian shelling.
