UNICEF allocates over 203 million hryvnias to support 700 Ukrainian schools, to prepare them for winter and modernize school canteens. 71 schools will receive funding in the Mykolaiv region.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Education and Culture, each institution will receive over 290,000 hryvnias. Up to 83,000 hryvnias can be used to repair and equip school canteens.

«The common goal of the government and donors is to ensure the continuity of education and create comfortable conditions for learning, especially in the winter period, strengthening those schools that, despite the difficult challenges of the war, continue to provide full-time education. During the distribution of funds, the commission emphasized the need to reach as many communities as possible in each region. This made it possible to provide support not only to large communities, but also to smaller settlements,» said Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Nadiia Kuzmychova.

John Marks, deputy head of the UNICEF Office in Ukraine, emphasized that the aid will enable schools to continue teaching in the winter period.

«This financial support will help schools better prepare for the winter season, and therefore ensure uninterrupted learning for students. Our goal is to bring a sense of stability and normalcy to schoolchildren through access to education, while at the same time empowering schools to use grant money for their specific needs related to the challenges of winter,» he said.

Monetary assistance from UNICEF is one-time and will be credited to the accounts of selected schools at the end of November. The project is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through the German Development Bank (KFW).

We will remind that the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) handed over 3,300 laptops, headphones and computer mice to the Mykolaiv region for the organization of distance learning.

Earlier it was reported that more than 300 schools in the Mykolaiv region wanted to start full-time or mixed education. However, after specialized inspections, their number halved.
