On Friday, 21 February, Polish President Andrzej Duda had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and gave him advice on cooperation with the White House administration.
The Polish president wrote about it on the social media platform X.
He says he assured the Ukrainian president that there is no other way to stop the bloodshed and achieve lasting peace in Ukraine but with the support of the United States.
«I conveyed to him that we have consistently believed that there is no other way to stop the bloodshed and achieve a lasting peace in Ukraine than with the support of the United States. For this reason, I invited President Zelenskyy to remain committed to a course of calm and constructive cooperation with Donald Trump. I believe that goodwill and honesty are at the heart of the US negotiating strategy. I have no doubt that President Donald Trump is guided by a deep sense of responsibility for global stability and peace», Andrzej Duda wrote.
The US president argued that Ukraine «should not have started» the war and suggested that peace could have been negotiated in three years. He also called his predecessor Joe Biden «a sleepy» and accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of incompetence, calling him «a dictator without elections».
In addition, Donald Trump said that Volodymyr Zelenskyy's approval rating was only 4% and called for elections. In response, the Ukrainian leader cited the results of a poll by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, according to which 57% of citizens trust him. Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the 4% claim Russian disinformation and noted that Donald Trump, «unfortunately, lives in this disinformation space».
Later, Trump's national security adviser Mike Volz said that relations between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy were deteriorating. According to him, the relationship «is in a state of frustration and is clearly moving in the wrong direction».
