The only way to achieve peace in Ukraine is through Trump's policy towards Russia, says Kim

The head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, believes that US President Donald Trump's policy is the only way to achieve peace in Ukraine.

He expressed this opinion in an interview with the British publication The Independent.

When asked about his priorities in Donald Trump's peace plan, Vitalii Kim replied: «Land is important, but people are more important, and the situation is such that we do not know what tomorrow will bring.»

The head of the RMA believes that US President Trump has made a breakthrough because «he is unpredictable», which has complicated the situation for the Russians.

«If it were traditional politics, step by step, nothing could be changed with Russia because they can predict it, so the only way to change something is through the unpredictable international policy that Donald Trump is currently pursuing. I sincerely believe that only with the help of such things, economic power, physical force, and only in this way can we stop Russia,» concluded Vitalii Kim.

In his opinion, for most Ukrainians, victory means living as they did before the invasion.

«For me personally, victory means our borders from 1991, where people are happy and not being killed, but everyone is very tired. So for the Ukrainian people, I think victory means simply stopping the war and certain guarantees of security for the future, so that our children can have the same life we had before the invasion,» said Vitalii Kim.

He believes that the Russian economy will be able to hold out for another two years before it collapses due to sanctions imposed because of the war. However, Vitalii Kim doubts that Ukraine will be able to hold out that long.

«The Russian economy is also suffering, and in my opinion, they have a few years before they start to decline publicly. I think Russia knows this, but they still have time, and Ukraine does not. We are exhausted, and first of all, it's not about weapons, it's not about missiles, it's about people. We only have 40 million people, and they are all exhausted. Our soldiers cannot fight for four to ten years,» said Vitalii Kim.

Recall that the head of the Mykolaiv Regional State Administration, Vitalii Kim, stated that for most Ukrainians, victory in the war with Russia today means, first and foremost, the cessation of hostilities, the preservation of human lives, and the provision of security guarantees.

Previously, in one of his interviews, Vitalii Kim said that he believes the beginning of 2026 will be a turning point for ending the war in Ukraine. He shared that he expects many investors to arrive after that.

As is known, the next round of negotiations between Ukraine, Russia and the United States on ending Russia's war against Ukraine has been postponed to 4 and 5 February and will take place in Abu Dhabi. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Last week, the parties held direct talks on the plan proposed by the US and agreed to continue discussions on Sunday. According to sources in the negotiating circles, the parties have already agreed on several points, but have not reached an agreement on the main issue. Russia demands the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbas, while Kyiv rejects this demand.
