While attending a business forum in Bulgaria, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych spoke about what kind of business he believes will develop in Mykolaiv, as well as how he responds to insults and unconstructive criticism directed at him.

He spoke about this in a quick interview with blogger Serhii Viherych, which was published on social media, according to NikVesti.

As is known, Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych took part in the Expats Investment Summit, which took place on 6–7 June in Varna, Bulgaria. He was accompanied by representatives of the «MriiDii» business community, including its head, Maksym Brevda.

Responding to the blogger’s question about the purpose of the trip to Varna, Oleksandr Sienkevych said that the primary aim was to promote Mykolaiv as an investment destination.

«First and foremost, it is about promoting Mykolaiv as a city in which one can invest funds. Not necessarily now, but at the very least planning for it now, and doing so after the war,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

According to Oleksandr Sienkevych, businesses in Mykolaiv should invest in energy projects.

«What types of business should be considered in Mykolaiv right now to be successful?» asked Serhii Viherych.

«Those that involve the highest risks but offer the highest margins. Energy, energy conservation, anything related to selling energy to the market or its generation. Solar panels, batteries, conservation and so on,» replied the mayor of Mykolaiv.

The blogger also asked the mayor what he would do when his term of office ended. To this, Oleksandr Sienkevych said that he sees many business opportunities for himself that will develop in Mykolaiv after the war ends, though all of them are linked to reconstruction efforts.

«One day I’ll stop being mayor and I’ll definitely get involved in some kind of business. It’s very hard to say exactly what right now, but as mayor today I see a wide range of different businesses that will develop in Mykolaiv and across Ukraine once the war is over. Construction, various service organisations linked to construction. That is, firefighting, logistics, and everything else. Various things related to Ukraine’s post-war recovery,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

Finally, the blogger asked Oleksandr Sienkevych how he deals with online abuse — unconstructive criticism and insults directed at him. To this, the mayor of Mykolaiv replied that he had «stopped reacting».

«At first, I took it very deeply to heart; then I got annoyed; then I stopped reacting to it altogether, and life became easier for me. There will always be hate. People who can’t create anything create hate. People who can’t achieve anything don’t go and work for the city council or anything like that; they just create hate. I have a rule — I listen to advice from people who have achieved more than me in the field in which they’re giving advice. And the haters seem to be giving advice too, because they can’t just hate for the sake of it. If they’re hating on me for my hairstyle, then I don’t just ignore these people, I despise them,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.

It should be recalled that in April 2026, Mykolaiv’s deputy mayor Serhii Korenev spoke at the «RECOVERY CONSTRUCTION FORUM UKRAINE» conference in Kyiv and presented the city’s experience in reconstruction processes. That same month, Ihor Nabatov, Deputy Director of the Department of Housing and Communal Services, and Ihor Filippov, Head of the Mykolaiv Development Agency, went on a business trip to Japan to study reconstruction practices.
