About 60 million hryvnias are needed to equip a site for the processing of construction waste, which was formed as a result of the shelling of Mykolaiv.

This was announced by the Deputy Director of the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Mykolaiv City Council, Ihor Nabatov, during the meeting of the City Council's Commission on Housing and Communal Services on July 29, NikVesti reports.

He reminded that Mykolayiv has already received a piece of equipment for processing construction waste from the Japanese agency for international cooperation, JICA. The city should receive two more units of equipment during September-October 2024.

«During 2023-24, we had serious negotiations with international partners regarding the delivery of a crusher to Mykolaiv, which will make it possible to crush the garbage created as a result of the arrivals. The first crushers have already started arriving with the support of the Japanese company JICA. In September, at the beginning of October, we expect two more crushers from USAID and UNDP,» said Ihor Nabatov.

Further, specialized equipment must be installed at construction waste processing sites, he added. For this, a plot of land has already been allocated, which will still need to be developed for these needs.

«There are corresponding requirements for such sites, which were approved in 2022. In order to fulfill these requirements, at the last session of the city council, the communal enterprise «ELU Avtodorig» was allocated a plot of land for the creation of a site for waste processing. First of all, there is a need to arrange this territory so that crushers can be installed there, as well as appropriate temporary houses where people can work, process all this waste on the spot and then use it to restore the objects of Mykolaiv,» he explained.

«ELU Avtodorig» has to equip and ensure the operation of such a site, Ihor Nabatov said.

This year, according to the utility company's calculations, 40 million 735 thousand hryvnias will be needed for these needs. However, says Ihor Nabatov, there is currently no question of allocating these funds.

«We are not allocating any funds now, we are only talking about the event (granting permission to ELU Avtodorig for the construction of the site, note) and the amount that is theoretically necessary to implement such an event,» he explained.

Another 20 million hryvnias, according to preliminary estimates, will be needed to upgrade the site in 2025, says Ihor Nabatov.

«This is the calculation of «ELU Avtodorig», but I immediately say that the total cost is even higher. Because in order for all the equipment to function properly, a very large number of arrangements must be made. The specified amount is only for 2024, and for 2025, another 20 million hryvnias are planned. But we do not speak for them yet, because the validity period of our program is until 2024. Already in the new program we will be able to display everything else,» explained Ihor Nabatov.

Destruction waste in the Mykolayiv region

By the end of 2023, Mykolaiv Oblast is among the six regions most littered with demolition waste: they occupy an area of more than half a million square meters of the region. Currently, part of this waste is stored in landfills, and another part is still at the sites of destruction. This causes damage to the environment of the region: the destruction waste pollutes water, soil, and air. And therefore the question arises of their professional disposal and re-processing for the reconstruction of the region, it is told in the article «Raise from the ruins: How are they going to get rid of the waste of destruction in Mykolaiv Oblast?».

As of the end of November 2023, 57 hectares of the territory of the Mykolaiv region were littered with construction debris created as a result of shelling. At the same time, the Department of Housing and Communal Services of Mykolaiv reported that by the end of 2023, the city should receive a special installation for shredding demolition waste.

During 2023, five temporary storage sites for demolition waste were identified in the Mykolaiv region.

At the same time, on the territory of the Mykolaiv region, they are going to build a plant for the processing of construction waste, which was formed as a result of enemy shelling. It is assumed that the plant will work for the processing of construction waste in two regions: Mykolaiv and Kherson, said the head of the Shevchenkive community Oleh Pylypenko. The Shevchenkove community also wants to deal with the disposal of hazardous demolition waste containing asbestos.

In 2024, Mykolaiv expects to receive equipment for the processing of construction waste, which was formed as a result of Russian shelling of buildings.
