Odesa was chosen as one of the four territorial communities of Ukraine to participate in the Swedish project on waste management according to European standards.

This was reported by the press service of the Odesa City Council.

The goal of the project is to develop local waste management plans that will allow attracting investments for the implementation of such projects. The next stage will be the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation.

«The projects will become the proposal under which we will be able to find investors faster and on a clear basis for the implementation of long-overdue projects for Odesa,» said the mayor of the city, Hennadii Trukhanov.

The program envisages the launch of four pilot projects based on the cluster principle, the establishment of an exchange of experience between Ukrainian and Swedish municipalities, as well as the creation of investment cases.

The project was the result of agreements reached during the visit of the President of Ukraine to Sweden, and was approved in July 2023.

The program «Strengthening household waste management in Ukraine for 2024-2027» is implemented with the support of the Swedish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (SIDA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

Earlier, UNDP reported that the construction waste sorting station in Mykolaiv will be operational by the end of the year.
