The director of «Parks» announced the intention to demolish old poplars in Mykolaiv

Dmytro Chuchmai, director of the Mykolaiv Parks utility company, announced his intention to demolish all the old poplar trees in the city. According to him, they plan to do this «as soon as possible.»

He told about this on the MART TV channel.

Dmytro Chuchmai said that the trees will be demolished, as they have «reached their age limit», and new plantations will be planted in their place with extra-budgetary funds.

— We had two strong storms. In July, 143 trees were felled, in November — 249. A total of 392 trees were felled. 90% of the fallen trees were poplars. The poplars planted in the city were planted in the 1950s and 1960s. That is, they have already reached their age limit, which is 50 years for a poplar. Therefore, the question of compensatory landing has been raised for a long time. Today, we are working to eliminate these dead trees as soon as possible and, thanks to the free help of the state enterprise Forests of Ukraine, carry out compensatory planting, — said the director of the enterprise.

He also hopes that the people of Mykolaiv will understand such plans: «When we took down the trees on the boulevard part of Tsentralnyi Avenue in 2022, there was a lot of criticism. But when we made a section of the trees, we saw that at first glance it seemed alive, but inside everything was rotten. Therefore, the question disappeared by itself.»

We will remind you that in March 2022, the mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych announced that poplars will be cut down in Mykolaiv to build dugouts and heat people at roadblocks. Later, the director of the housing and communal services department of the city council, Dmytro Bezdolnyi, clarified that the felled poplars were used not only for fortifications, but also for heating social institutions and hospitals.

Already in May 2023, the Mykolaiv Parks utility company ordered 5 million hryvnias for tree removal, sanitary and rejuvenating tree pruning, stump grubbing, and tree planting services in the city. It was about planting 50 young maples. Then the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych, asked the townspeople whether it is worth buying seedlings of trees and bushes.

It is also known that 144 trees are planned to be demolished in Mykolaiv by the end of 2023, 632 trees have already been demolished this year, «Mykolaiv parks» reported in response to an information request from NikVesti.
