17 cases of leptospirosis have been detected in the Mykolaiv region, and two people have died since the beginning of the year

Since the beginning of 2024, 17 cases of leptospirosis have been registered in the Mykolaiv region, which is 3.4 times higher than last year.

The Mykolaiv City Council reports this with reference to the Mykolaiv Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

In particular, 8 cases of leptospirosis were recorded in the city of Mykolaiv. Two people died of leptospirosis in the Mykolaiv region due to late referral to hospitals, and two deaths were also registered in 2023.

Since the beginning of the year, 230 cases of leptospirosis have been detected in Ukraine, of which 83 cases were registered in August alone.

Leptospirosis is a particularly dangerous infectious disease that can lead to serious damage to the body, including kidney, liver and even meningitis. Death is possible in cases of untimely medical assistance.

It was previously reported that the incidence of acute intestinal infections has increased in Ukraine.
