Deputies of the Mykolaiv City Council supported the decision to grant permission to the utility company «Mykolaivoblteploenergo» to enter into the necessary transactions to launch cogeneration plants.

The decision was made on 11 December at a meeting of the city council, according to NikVesti.

According to the company's director, Mykola Lohvinov, «Mykolaivoblteploenergo» received 7 block-modular cogeneration units capable of simultaneously generating heat and electricity from the German GIZ Foundation. Five of them have a capacity of 0.6 MW, and two more have a capacity of 0.85 MW. All units have already been installed.

The decision was supported by 33 council members.

In June, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine allocated 1.1 billion hryvnias to prepare Mykolaiv for the next heating season. The city plans to install new boiler houses to replace the damaged CHP plant. This includes the purchase of 18 modular boiler houses with a total capacity of over 70 megawatts. According to the Prime Minister, this will ensure heat in the homes of the townspeople during the coming winter.

It was also reported that the Mykolaiv Regional Council is discussing the possibility of transferring seven modular boiler houses to the city to ensure their proper maintenance and operation in case of blackouts.
