Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has instructed NEC Ukrenergo to reduce the duration of power outages in regions where the situation remains most difficult.

He announced this on his Telegram channel following a meeting with the company's management.

The discussion focused on increasing electricity imports by strengthening links between the western and eastern parts of the power system. According to Denys Shmyhal, the government expects the company to quickly increase its capacity to import electricity by developing interconnectors at the borders with the EU.

«Implement projects to improve the transmission of electricity from western Ukraine to the east. For the efficient use of generated and imported electricity where it is most needed. This refers to both repairs and network development. The tasks set will reduce the duration of power cuts in the areas where the situation is currently most difficult,» wrote Denys Shmyhal.

Among other priorities, the Minister of Energy mentioned:

  • reducing bureaucracy to speed up the process of repairing and adapting power grids;
  • ensuring the effective repair of power grids in communities close to the front line and securing substations;
  • simplifying the process of connecting distributed generation.

Earlier, the government promised not to turn off the lights in homes with electric heating.

Prior to this, a state of emergency was declared in Ukraine's energy sector.
