Worn-out premises, constant queues and ice around the entrances — these are the conditions in which many Ukrposhta branches in Mykolaiv operate, which are used daily mainly by pensioners and residents of the city with limited mobility.

This was pointed out by Spartak Hukasian, representative of the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights in the Mykolaiv region, according to NikVesti.

According to him, despite regular reports from Ukrposhta's management about development, modernisation and state funding, the situation on the ground often does not meet the stated standards. Many branches have outdated interiors and furniture that is more than two decades old, minimal salaries for employees and a lack of basic amenities for visitors.

Spartak Hukasian emphasised that in wartime, the post office is not only a service but also an important channel of communication. At the same time, the reality in Mykolaiv branches, according to him, resembles the early 1990s.

«Millions of Ukrainians are abroad, while their families remain here in Ukraine. Today, the post office is not just about letters, it is a link between families. And now this is the reality on the ground, right here in the city of Mykolaiv. You walk into a Ukrposhta branch and it's like going back to the early 90s: old premises that are literally falling apart, interiors and furniture that are 20+ years old, exhausted employees with minimum wages, constant queues and a lack of basic amenities,» he wrote.

Separately, the ombudsman's representative raised the issue of accessibility. People with disabilities, elderly citizens and parents with prams have to overcome numerous obstacles every day. In winter, the situation is exacerbated by ice, snow and the lack of proper cleaning at entrances.

«In such weather — ice, snow, and lack of cleaning near the entrance — it is no longer just an inconvenience, it is a risk to health and life,» said Spartak Hukasian.

He also drew attention to the problem of energy independence — not all branches have alternative power sources, which is critically important in wartime.

In conclusion, Spartak Hukasian asked where exactly the declared development of Ukrposhta is being felt and when it will reach ordinary branches and people.

«This raises a simple question: where exactly is this development that is being reported, and when will it reach ordinary post offices and ordinary people? Because beautiful reports and real conditions on the ground still exist in different realities,» Spartak Hukasian concluded .

Earlier, it was reported that law enforcement officers in the Mykolaiv region exposed the head of one of the branches of JSC Ukrposhta, who is suspected of embezzling budget funds intended for the payment of pensions and state social assistance.
