Residents of Ochakiv owe over ₴3.2 million for water and sewerage services — this accounts for 66% of all debts owed to the municipal utility company «Ochakiv-Service».

This is evidenced by data from the company’s 2025 annual report, published on the Ochakiv City Council website.

It is stated that the total amount of accounts receivable for services provided by the company as of the start of 2026 stands at 4,868,365 hryvnias, which is almost 1 million hryvnias more than a year earlier.

«Given that 66%, or 3,213,512 hryvnias, of the debt is owed by the public, the company has taken measures to carry out spot checks of meter readings in the city’s apartment blocks, which revealed discrepancies between the figures provided to the company and the corresponding payments,» the statement reads.

As noted in the company’s report, the rise in debts is occurring against a backdrop of rising resource costs and service provision expenses. In particular, over the year, prices for electricity have risen significantly (+1.95 hryvnias per 1 kW), as have fuel and lubricants (+9 hryvnias per litre), whilst the cost of materials and spare parts has increased by 1.5 times.

Despite this, the company managed to halve network losses by repairing critical sections of the water pipeline, as well as reducing the cost of the service to 76.86 hryvnias per 1 m³.

In 2025, the tariff for the public in Ochakiv was also increased: since May, it has stood at 50% of the economically justified level — 45.20 hryvnias per 1 m³ including VAT. This allowed the company to increase its revenue by approximately 3.5 million hryvnias compared to the previous year.

Despite this, the municipal enterprise «Ochakiv-Service» notes that the company’s core operations remain loss-making due to rising costs and the fact that tariffs do not fully cover the costs for all categories of consumers.

It was previously reported that during the 2025–2026 academic year, a decline in the number of children in educational institutions was recorded in Ochakiv. Overall, there were 105 fewer pupils than the previous year.

It should be recalled that the director of the municipal enterprise Mykolaivvodokanal, Hennadii Iziumov, stated that the quality of tap water in Mykolaiv has improved, although final conclusions regarding its quality will only be possible in about a year’s time.
