In Mykolaiv, more than 40% of entrepreneurs changed their advertising signs to Ukrainian.

According to the annual report of Taras Kremin, the commissioner for the protection of the state language, almost half of the city's entrepreneurs have already changed their signs to Ukrainian.

The results of a raid survey on how the norms of language legislation are implemented in Mykolaiv, in particular regarding the placement of signs in private institutions in the city in Russian in 2023, showed that out of 6.5 thousand objects of business activity, almost 5 thousand meet the requirements of the legislation regarding language information and advertising. However, more than one and a half thousand objects were identified as violators.

As for business entities that violated language norms, by the beginning of 2024, more than a third of them corrected their actions after working with the authorized bodies.

«According to the results of the surveys, it was found that 1,559 objects do not meet the requirements, of which 1,343 business entities were interviewed, and paper information materials were left at the objects. Additionally, 216 facilities were found to be closed. According to the results, by April 1, 2024, 530 out of 1,343 economic entities have eliminated violations of language legislation. Work with the remaining objects continues. It is also noted about active explanatory work with entrepreneurs regarding the implementation of language legislation and the provision of information letters with sanctions in case of non-compliance,» the report noted.

Earlier, Taras Kremin, the commissioner for the protection of the state language, expressed his dissatisfaction with the way in which the norms of language legislation are implemented in Mykolaiv, in particular, regarding the placement of signs in Russian language at private institutions in the city.

We would like to remind you that on February 23, 2023 , the Ukrainian language development program was adopted in Mykolaiv. According to Yurii Liubarov, the head of the Culture Department of the Mykolaiv City Council, the goal of the program is, in particular, to create a dominant Ukrainian-speaking space.
