state-confiscated non-ferrous metals plant

Mykolaiv Alumina Plant is an enterprise the Ukrainian state confiscated from Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska and handed over to the State Property Fund. Two storage sites next to the plant hold 48 million tonnes of red mud. In April 2026 a storm wind carried dust from the sludge fields near Mykolaiv, and the environmental inspectorate later reported that the dust suppression system works at only 70% capacity.

As of October 2026, the State Property Fund plans to auction the plant in early 2027. In summer 2026 the starting price was put at about UAH 6.3 billion. It is still undecided whether the sludge fields will be sold together with the plant, and according to the Fund, the plant's own money will last only until summer 2027.

MykVisti follows the privatisation of the plant, the state of the sludge storage sites and the plant's answers to the newsroom's requests.
