During the full-scale war in the Mykolaiv region, 152 medical facilities were damaged and another 13 were completely destroyed beyond repair.

This is reported by the Ministry of Health.

It is noted that over two years, 1,619 medical facilities were damaged and another 214 were completely destroyed beyond repair as a result of Russia's bombing and systematic attacks.

In particular, medical facilities in many regions: Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia were the most affected. In addition, it is currently impossible to obtain data on the degree of destruction of hospitals in the temporarily occupied territories.

The Ministry of Health noted that in Mykolaiv region, 82 medical facilities were fully restored and 50 were partially restored.

The department also reported that 524 medical facilities have already been fully restored and another 358 have been partially restored. It is about the reconstruction of hospitals in the de-occupied territories, as well as those that have suffered minor damage: broken windows, destruction of the roof, damage to the facade, etc. Most of the facilities were restored in the Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions. Restoration work will continue.

We will remind that Mykolaiv Oblast became one of the regions where the Russians destroyed the most hospitals during the Great War. In Mykolaiv alone, during the year of the full-scale invasion , 16 medical facilities were damaged by enemy shelling: windows, doors and roofs were broken. About 16 million hryvnias were allocated from the city budget for their restoration.

At the same time, international partners are joining the reconstruction of the medical industry of the city and region. For example, partners from Kazakhstan rebuilt the trauma center of the Mykolaiv Emergency Hospital. The opening took place on August 18, 2023.

In addition, at the expense of German partners, they began to restore the surgical department of a multidisciplinary hospital in Bashtanka, Mykolaiv region.

It is also known that the Mykolaiv region received 626.8 million hryvnias for the reconstruction and restoration of five critical objects of the region. Among them: the capital reconstruction of the building of the psychoneurological department of the Mykolaiv Regional Mental Health Center of the KNP (200.2 million hryvnias), the reconstruction of the polyclinic building of the KNP «Bashtanla Multispecialty Hospital» of the Bashtanka City Council (86.8 million hryvnias) and the reconstruction of the building of the medical building KNP «Bashtanka Multidisciplinary Hospital» (45.3 million hryvnias).

Restoration of the Mykolaiv Oblast

As of February 2024, more than 30% of infrastructure facilities in the Mykolaiv region have been restored. Hospitals and bridges were restored the most, and the residential sector the least.

Last year, the Service for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure in the Mykolaiv Oblast concluded contracts for restoration and repair of objects worth 7.8 billion hryvnias. This is the fourth place in Ukraine in terms of the amount of auctions.

Among the objects to be restored is the bridge in Voznesensk, which is located on the highway H-24 «Blahovishchenske — Mykolaiv». It was destroyed last year during battles with Russian troops for the city, NikVesti reported.

This year, they plan to start work on the restoration of Mykolaiv airport, which was destroyed at the beginning of the Russian invasion.

Prior to that, 789 million hryvnias were allocated from the state budget for the reconstruction of 16 objects damaged by shelling in Mykolaiv region as part of the fund for liquidation of the consequences of armed aggression. During the inspections, the State Audit Service found a number of violations in tender purchases for some of them.

Postwar reconstruction of Mykolaiv

Currently, it is known that about 60% of the aid that Denmark sends to Ukraine goes to Mykolaiv and the Mykolaiv region.

At the annual forum of the publishing house «Legal Practice» Business & Legal Infrastructure Forum, the ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine announced the vision of the post-war reconstruction of Mykolaiv with friendly conditions for pedestrians and bicycle infrastructure.

While in Mykolaiv, the ambassador explained that after the end of the full-scale war, Denmark would help Mykolaiv to restore and modernize its shipbuilding capacity.

In addition, Denmark will rebuild the Lyceum named after Mykola Arkas while preserving its authentic appearance. As of September 2023, Ukrainian architects presented Ole Egberg Mikkelsen with reconstruction options.

Another educational institution that will be rebuilt by the Danes is Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding (NUK). The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen is sure that this will revive Mykolaiv as a «city of shipbuilding».

The ambassador also supported the idea of creating a Danish quarter or park in Mykolaiv, but today this issue remains at the idea stage.
