President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is currently personally dealing with the issue of restoring the supply of drinking water to Mykolaiv.
This was reported by the mayor Oleksandr Sienkevych in the journalistic project Backstage.
He explained that it will be possible to restore the supply of drinking water to the city only after the left bank of the Kherson region is freed and the water intake pumping station is repaired.
«As soon as the left bank is freed, we will be able to get to our water intake pumping station, repair it, because the Russians shelled it, and start the water. Other ways will not give us water of such drinking quality as we had before the war,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
However, the mayor added, there is currently a technical solution to this problem, but its first results should be expected no earlier than the spring of 2024.
«When we do something, people always say: «we'd better give water.» That is, people think that there is an alternative: do «whatever» or make water, and we choose «whatever.» No. I deal with this issue, the head of the regional military administration Vitalii Kim deals with this issue, the president deals with this issue personally. In fact, today everything is aimed at doing. There is one technical solution, it is very secret. We are currently working on it, but we won't be able to get any results before spring,» said Oleksandr Sienkevych.
Earlier, the head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, called for informational silence regarding the issue of restoring the supply of drinking water to the residents of Mykolaiv.
At a briefing on June 6, 2023, the head of the Mykolaiv RMA said that the water quality in Mykolaiv should improve in 10 days. In his opinion, raising the level of rivers from which water is taken for Mykolaiv should have a positive effect on water quality.
After that, the Cabinet of Ministers allocated 120 million hryvnias to provide the residents of Mykolaiv with drinking water. On this occasion, the Deputy Mayor of Mykolaiv, Vitalii Lukov, said that three possible options for supplying water to the city are currently being considered. At the same time, he added that until the end of hostilities in the south, Mykolaiv will not be able to restore a full supply of drinking water.
In July 2023, the mayor of Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Sienkevych , expressed hope that drinking water would flow from the taps in Mykolaiv residents' apartments in a month. However, this did not happen — the mayor reported problems with water supply in Kryvyi Rih after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP.
