Mykolaiv Airport, which was destroyed at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, needs €13 million to restore its operations.

This is stated in the Mykolaiv Region Development Strategy until 2027, according to NikVesti.

Direct hits from shells and missiles damaged important airport facilities, including the airport terminal complex, lighting and radio equipment, the apron and the fire station.

The technical condition of the airport currently prevents it from operating normally, and many areas need urgent restoration.

According to the technical report, the total cost of infrastructure restoration is approximately 13 million hryvnias.

As a reminder, on 13 February, Mykolaiv Regional Council amended the Regional Development Strategy until 2027.

As you know, in early March 2022, fierce fighting broke out on the territory of Mykolaiv International Airport between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Russian occupiers.

The Ukrainian defenders managed to repel the enemy's attacks and prevent them from taking up positions in an important strategic point. However, as a result of the battle, the airport was subjected to devastating shelling by Russian troops and was effectively destroyed. To see what Mykolaiv International Airport looks like after the fighting, see the photo report NikVesti.

In 2023, the Mykolaiv Regional Council included the restoration of the airport in its action programme. The restoration of the enterprise involves ensuring a high level of flight safety, regularity of flights, and improving the quality of service and service culture.

In summer 2020, the airport received its first scheduled flight from Kyiv for the first time in 13 years. To make this happen, money was raised from across the region to repair the terminal and runway, including from the regional, district, city and village budgets.

For several years, people from Mykolaiv flew from here to Turkey, Egypt, and Kyiv. Just a month before the outbreak of full-scale war, on 23 January, «Motor Sich» launched a regular flight to Kyiv, and the day before «Mykolaiv International Airport» was approved in advance to be included in the state airport development programme for 2022.
