In Mykolaiv, they plan to use grant funds to restore five apartment buildings that were damaged by Russian shelling.

The city was included in the five territorial communities that were selected within the framework of the grant project «Renovation of housing to restore the rights and opportunities of people» HOPE, Deputy Director of the Department of Housing and Communal Services Ihor Nabatov said in a comment to NikVesti.

«According to preliminary information, Mykolaiv is among the five leaders who have the opportunity to receive appropriate assistance within the framework of this grant competition. We have submitted quite a lot of objects there — primarily those that are not provided with financing this year,» he informed.

A total of five buildings from Mykolaiv were submitted for restoration at the following addresses: 67 Yantarna, 142-B Kosmonavtiv, 132 Kosmonavtiv, 61 Vokzalna and 43-A Pohranychna streets. Exactly which houses will be restored within the framework of the grant project will be known after the official announcement of the competition results.

The cost of restoration of all five apartment buildings is about 35-40 million hryvnias, added the housing and communal services department.

The HOPE project is being implemented with the financial support of the Multidonor Trust Fund for Support, Restoration, Reconstruction and Reform of Ukraine. And the grant agreement was concluded between Ukraine and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Development Association.

What about the restoration of houses in Mykolaiv?

In 2024, 45 million hryvnias are planned to be spent on the restoration of damaged or destroyed apartment buildings from the budget of Mykolaiv, whereas in 2023 , 40 million hryvnias were allocated for this purpose.

The first high-rise building damaged by shelling in Mykolaiv began to be restored at the expense of the city budget in July 2023. We are talking about the house on Krylova Street, which was hit by a Russian missile in the summer of 2022.

At the end of the year, the housing and communal services department of the Mykolaiv City Council reported that in 2023, four residential apartment buildings that were damaged as a result of shelling by Russian troops were overhauled.

After that, the Department of Housing and Communal Services announced a tender for the restoration of a five-story building in the center of Mykolaiv, which was destroyed by a Russian missile in the fall of 2022. Subsequently, NikVesti showed how the process of its restoration continues.

And in April 2024, the Housing and Social Services Department announced another tender for the capital repair of a high-rise building at 132 Kosmonavtiv Street in Mykolaiv. Four more houses awaiting reconstruction are houses at 67 Yantarna, 2 Alyaudy, 61 Raiduzhna and 142-B Kosmonavtiv streets. And in May 2024, the Department of Housing and Housing announced a tender for the restoration of the house on Samoilovicha Street, 8A. Another building for which a contractor is being sought for restoration is a high-rise building at 142-B Kosmonavtiv Street.

At the same time, the city council supported the allocation of funds from the budget of Mykolaiv for the technical inspection of private houses affected by the war.

More than half of Mykolaiv residents surveyed believe that raising wages (43%) and restoring destroyed housing (35%) will help to return citizens who have left Mykolaiv since the start of the full-scale war.
