Novyi Buh in the Mykolaiv region received approximately 19 million hryvnias in donor funds, which will be used to replace water pipes and design a solar substation.

The issue was discussed at an extraordinary session of the city council on 6 March, according to NikVesti.

Mayor Maksym Lahodiienko announced that the community had signed a memorandum with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). The total amount of donor support is approximately 19 million hryvnias. Under the terms of the cooperation, the community has also allocated an additional 3 million 680 thousand hryvnias.

According to him, these funds will be used to purchase pipes of various diameters to repair the water pipeline from Sofiivka to Novyi Buh.

At the committee meetings, the mayor reported that the modernisation of the networks had already begun earlier. Last year, 1 kilometre 700 metres were replaced with donor funds. At that time, the funding covered both the purchase of pipes and the performance of work. This year, only the purchase of pipes is planned.

Part of the funds from UNICEF will also be spent on designing a 200-kilowatt solar power station. By the end of the year, donors will also be ready to allocate up to 100,000 hryvnias for the installation of equipment.

«We currently have a 100 kW system with batteries installed by the Red Cross, which is already in operation. We need 180 kW of power for Novyi Bug because the pumps consume a lot of energy. If we install a 300 kW solar substation, it will provide us with a full water supply to the city in the spring and autumn,» said the mayor.

He added that the funds received will allow the purchase of the necessary equipment, the continuation of the water pipeline renovation, and preparation for the installation of solar power generation, which should increase the stability of the water supply system and reduce dependence on electricity.

We would like to remind you that in August last year, the mayor of Novyi Buh, Maksym Lahodiienko, said that due to the wear and tear of the water supply network, water is supplied to local residents' homes three times a day according to a schedule.

Earlier, residents of Novyi Buh complained that the water from their taps was not of drinking quality. At that time, NikVesti asked Mykola Maistrenko, head of the Novyi Buh City Council's Water Supply Networks utility company, for comment. He said that the water in the residents' taps comes from the Sofiivka reservoir and undergoes several stages of purification. According to him, the water is filtered to a quality that makes it suitable for domestic use.
