In the first six months of 2024, about 5,000 cases of domestic violence were recorded in the Mykolaiv region.

Such statistics were announced during the briefing by the director of the social protection department of Mykolayiv RMA Oksana Yelchiieva, NikVesti writes.

According to the official, the war was the main factor affecting the increase in cases of domestic violence. If in 2022 the number of appeals was slightly more than 5 thousand, then in 2023 they received 11 thousand.

In 2024, 4,841 complaints of violence were received, confirmed by the Main Directorate of the National Police of the Mykolaiv region: 4,025 related to women, 521 cases related to men, and 295 related to children.

«In fact, these cases are much more, because not every man or woman is ready to declare what happened to them. There is a problem in the identification of such appeals. When we say that only women suffer, it is not true. Both men and children suffer. Children suffer even if they are not the object of violence, but have become witnesses. According to the current legislation, such a child is an injured person,» Oksana Yelchiieva said.

As a countermeasure against violence, providers of a range of services are operating on the territory of the Mykolaiv region, which provide assistance to persons affected by violence, says Oksana Yelchiieva.

«We have more than 21 mobile teams, which include social workers and psychologists. They can go to the place and provide assistance to the affected families,» she said.

Where to go if you are a victim of domestic violence:

Mykolaiv regional mobile brigade: +38 096 970 78 52;

Mykolaiv city mobile brigade: +38 050 811 45 20, +38 096 146 94 52.

Victims also have the opportunity to move to socially protected places. In particular, there are three shelters in Mykolayiv region that can provide temporary shelter, legal and economic assistance.

There are also spaces «Vilna», «Path of Resilience», «Family Friendly Space», where specialists provide assistance to women, children and veterans and family members of the dead.

National domestic violence hotline: 116 123.

As a reminder, on April 1, a shelter was opened in Mykolaiv, where victims of domestic or gender violence can receive comprehensive help and shelter.
