The number of accidents involving explosive objects has halved in the Mykolaiv region

This year, the number of accidents involving explosive objects in Mykolaiv Oblast has halved compared to last year: 64 were recorded in 2023, and 26 in 2024.

This was announced by the Deputy Head of the Department of Civil Protection of Mykolaiv Oblast, Olena Horbachova, during a briefing on November 19, NikVesti writes.

In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, there have been 92 incidents involving explosive devices in Mykolaiv region, as a result of which 90 people were injured, including 12 children.

«Regarding the demining of territories. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 92 incidents involving explosive devices have been recorded, as a result of which 109 people were injured. Among them are 90 wounded, including 12 children, and 19 dead, including one child. Compared to last year, the number of incidents has halved: in 2023, there were 64 cases, and for this year to date — 26,» said Olena Horbachova.

How is the demining of the Mykolaiv Oblast going on?

Ukraine recently updated the country's priority demining plan. According to it, more than 512,000 hectares of agricultural land are subject to priority demining, of which 44,000 hectares are in Mykolaiv Oblast.

As of December 2023, 30% of the territory of the Mykolaiv region has been mined. In total, it is 754 thousand hectares of land.

At the same time, they are working on demining in the region. For example, as of October 2023, 13 thousand 40 hectares, including 9 thousand 25 hectares of agricultural land, have been demined in the Mykolayiv region.

About 30,000-35,000 hectares of land remain mined in the Bashtanka district of the Mykolaiv region, part of which was under occupation. And in the village of Maksymivka of the Pervomaisk community of the Mykolaiv region, locals live with an unexploded shell under the foundation of the house.

In general, the demining situation in Maksymivka is currently critical. A year after liberation from the Russian occupiers , the village was demined by only 40%.
