A man suspected of preparing a terrorist attack in Kherson has been taken into custody without the right to bail. The measure of restraint for the 48-year-old resident of Cherkasy region was imposed by the Central District Court of Mykolaiv.
According to the court's press service, the man allegedly acted in collusion with a person who promised him money for committing the attack. He arrived in Kherson under instructions to gather information about potential targets of attack. In particular, he photographed and filmed the buildings of the National Police, the Territorial Recruitment Center, as well as the city court. Later, he took an improvised explosive device, and the information about its location was passed to him by his curator.
It is noted that the man tried to attract an accomplice, but he refused.
The suspect set up a hidden video surveillance system to provide online monitoring of the planned terrorist attack. Later, he left explosives near the building of one of the shopping centres in Kherson, and a minute later, the detonator phone received a call. However, due to a technical failure, the explosion did not take place.
During the court hearing, the man pleaded guilty and did not object to the chosen measure of restraint.
Earlier in Mykolaiv, law enforcement officers detained a 19-year-old student suspected of preparing a terrorist attack near the National Police building.
