Residents have been awarded ₴2.8 billion in compensation for damage to their homes in the Mykolaiv region

Residents of the Mykolaiv region have submitted over 11,500 applications for compensation for homes damaged or destroyed by Russian shelling. Most of these have already been processed, and the total amount of approved aid has exceeded 2.8 billion hryvnias.

This was reported to NikVesti by the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

The largest number of positive decisions relate to damaged homes — over 7,600 people have received compensation for these. The total amount of approved compensation stands at 817.5 million hryvnias.

The recipient of donations is the NGO “Mykolaiv Media Hub” (EDRPOU 45160758). A further nearly 1,600 owners of destroyed homes have received housing vouchers worth over 2 billion hryvnias or cash compensation for the construction of new homes — 35.3 million hryvnias.

The largest number of applications came from residents of the Mykolaiv community — nearly 5,700. Next were the Zavodske, Shevchenkove, Snihurivka and Halytsynove communities.

What is happening with housing reconstruction in the Mykolaiv region

Since 2023, Ukraine has been running the «eVidnovlennia» compensation programme for damaged housing. Commissions for the restoration of damaged housing are currently operating in the region.

In January 2024, the first resident of Mykolaiv purchased a flat using a housing certificate.

At present, village heads in the Mykolaiv region report that some residents whose homes were completely destroyed have received housing certificates and have decided not to return to their communities.

Overall, in the de-occupied villages of the Mykolaiv region, a lack of jobs remains one of the main problems. Local residents say that simply rebuilding homes is not enough to bring people back — jobs must be created and social infrastructure restored.
