A sports college damaged by shelling was rebuilt in Mykolaiv — UNDP inspected the results of the work

The delegation of the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine inspected the Mykolaiv Vocational College of Physical Education after major renovation.

The institution, where prominent Mykolaiv athletes and Olympic medalists studied, was damaged by a rocket attack in 2022. The blast wave damaged the facade, roof, walls, floor, windows and interior doors, leaving the college partially destroyed.
As part of the «EU4UASchools: Build Back Better» project, it was restored with funds from the European Union and UNDP. With the participation of partners in the educational institution, the ceiling and floor were replaced, shelters for 400 people were equipped, new windows and doors were installed, restrooms were repaired, the facade and roof were renovated, and training halls were remodeled.
The restored college and the shelter were inspected by Shoko Noda, director of the UNDP Bureau of Crisis Situations, and Jako Cilliers, the permanent representative of UNDP in Ukraine. In a comment to NikVesti, Cilliers noted that he was impressed by the reincarnation of the institution, because he saw its condition even in the first stages of damage.
«I am visiting this school for the third time. Today I see the institution restored and I am very pleased. We provided assistance in repairing the roof, classrooms where children are currently studying, replacing doors and windows. But the most important thing for this institution is that we restored and reconstructed the bomb shelter so that the children can return to offline learning. Children should learn in comfortable conditions,» said Jako Cilliers.
